Palo Santo, also known as Holy Wood is a sacred tree that grows along the South American coast. Traditionally used by healers and elders in ritual prayer, purification ceremonies and for healing purposes, as the ancient cultures believed the tree had both magical and healing properties. It was, and is still, believed that these properties would only come forth if the tree had been left to live a full life and then experienced respectful death when it was ready. Therefore only wood that came from fallen palo trees that had died naturally and been lying peacefully for an extended period could be harvested for it's sacred healing purposes. For this reason the harvesting of Palo Santo is regulated with the same traditional principles to ensure that the growing demand doesn't lead to the lopping of young trees. Our Palo Santo comes from trees that have fallen naturally and been lying peacefully for 4-10 years and every tree that is used is replaced with a seedling, with the aim of continuously restoring the Palo Santo population.
The wood is believed to create sacred smoke that clears a person or space of negative energies and allow space for positive energy to flow in, similar to the burning of other plant matter. Palo Santo has also been helped to alleviate and clear out physiological ailments such as headaches, stress and anxiety, inflammation, allergies and the common cold.
